It’s that time of the year again! And while dreaming of beach days is exciting, the thought of exercising constantly and feeling too exhausted to actually go to the beach is less than ideal. Getting your body summer-ready, whether you’re considering body contouring or laser hair removal, is best done before the summer sun is in full effect.
Even a fairly standard procedure is sure to come with some questions about downtime and recovery methods.
At Z Center for Cosmetic Health Medical Spa, we see and perform skin and body treatments to repair everything from sun damage to cellulite. That’s why we wanted to break down five of our most popular pre-summer body treatments now, before the peak summer sun is upon us.
What Are The 5 Most Effective Pre-Summer Body Treatments?
There are many different types of pre-summer body treatments that can improve your skin elasticity, help burn stubborn fat or simply provide hydration for that summer glow.
When it comes to the most effective treatments available at the med spa, you’ll probably want to consider the downtime and desired effects of each of the following treatments.
1. Body Sculpting
Body contouring or sculpting involves methods to either reduce or kill fat cells in areas that are difficult to remove otherwise. There are two main methods we utilize at Z Center for Cosmetic Health Medical Spa:
Emsculpt NEO
Emsculpt NEO is a first of its kind method of achieving muscle tone and abdomen sculpting through a combination of targeted electromagnetic and radiofrequency energy. Clinical studies have shown it achieves up to a 30% reduction in fat and a 25% increase in muscle tone after only 4 sessions.
Coolsculpting
Coolsculpting is another noninvasive fat method that works in minutes by killing the fat cells with FDA-approved cryolipolysis technology. It’s an effective treatment to get rid of stubborn fat in any of the following areas:
- Back
- Thighs
- Love handles
- Abdomen
- Upper arms
- Buttocks
- Bra bulge
- Chin
- Jawline
2. Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite is perfectly natural and harmless, but it can still hurt our body image and self-confidence. Thankfully, there are now a wide variety of nonsurgical options to consider!
Thermitite
Thermitite is a groundbreaking nonsurgical treatment that works fast by targeting the subsurface layer of skin with radiofrequency heat energy that melts fat cells and tightens the skin. Since there is minimal downtime, you can expect to leave the clinic swimsuit-ready! Z Center For Cosmetic Health is proud to be the sole provider of Thermitite technology in the Sherman Oaks area.
Sculptra
Sculptra, an FDA-approved injectable collagen stimulator, is designed to treat the outward signs of aging. Its poly-lactic acid formula also works on the underlying causes of cellulite.
Sculptra may take several weeks to see the full effect. But unlike most dermal fillers that last for a year at most, Sculptra’s formula promotes collagen production for up to 2 years after a treatment plan of 2-4 sessions on average.
Radiofrequency Microneedling
Genius Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling works to stimulate your body’s own collagen and elastin production. Unlike traditional microneedling that may lead to hyper-pigmentation in the dermis over time, Genius RF Microneedling targets the epidermis and dermis using intelligent technology which greatly reduces this risk.
The way microneedling works is by stimulating the skin’s natural collagen production through the use of, as the name suggests, tiny needles.
There is an initial swelling and redness that typically lasts 24-36 hours, but it can take up to a week to resolve. As such, it is important to plan RF microneedling ahead of any important summer events to avoid any unnecessary sun damage during the healing period. You can expect to feel immediate skin tightening as well as minor irritation and redness for 24-72 hours following the procedure, but this will quickly resolve to reveal a smooth, summer ready skin texture.
3. Botox For Sweat
Many people think that botox is used exclusively for aesthetic treatments. However, hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating that doesn’t come from heat or exercise, is a medical condition that can lead to serious discomfort and social anxiety. It is considered especially serious when both over-the-counter and prescription options from your dermatologist have failed.
In these occasions, botox is one of the most effective approved treatments for excessive underarm sweat. However, qualified doctors are also permitted to use botox “off-label” on the face and scalp, palms, and the soles of the feet to help treat hyperhydrosis-associated discomfort.
4. Laser Resurfacing
Certain scars, fine lines, or hyper-pigmentation can be next to impossible to treat with at-home skin treatments alone. If you’ve not yet achieved the results you’re looking for, Nano-Ray Laser Resurfacing is a great option! With precise results, it is an effective treatment for nearly any area of the body.
The nano-ray laser can treat:
- Acne scars or other scarring
- Sun spots
- Fine lines
- Stretch marks
- Hyper-pigmentation
A typical session of laser resurfacing for scar removal lasts only 10 or 15 minutes. There may be some mild swelling, redness, or darkness in the treated area for 24-48 hours after the treatment. After that, your skin may also start to peel to reveal the new skin underneath. It’s especially important to moisturize the new skin regularly during this time.
5. Laser Hair Removal
Whether it’s the bikini line, legs, arms, or armpits, keeping these areas shaved all summer long can be a serious hassle. Experts also advise letting your tan fade before a laser hair removal procedure. So, why not consider a more permanent option before your summer tan?
While there can be some discomfort associated with laser hair removal, particularly in sensitive areas like the bikini line or armpits, most people find the time and effort they save is worth it and schedule a regular maintenance treatment
Can I Still Do Laser Hair Removal Before Summer?
Absolutely! The only thing you’ll need to prepare for is one day without sun exposure and sunscreen use following the treatment, which Dr. Zadeh always recommends to patients. There is little to no downtime following a laser hair removal treatment. At most, you can expect minor redness or irritation in the treated area which should subside in a few hours or a few days at most.
